نَقْرَأُ لَكُمْ كِتَابَ عَبْقَرِيَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ

الْمُقَدِّمَةُ

The Introduction

تَعُودُ بِنَا هَذِهِ الْمُقَدِّمَةُ ثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً

This introduction takes us back thirty years

إِلَى الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ فِيهِ أَوَّلَ اقْتِرَاحٍ بِتَأْلِيفِ كِتَابٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ

To the day I heard the first suggestion to write a book about Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him

كُنْتُ أُقِيمُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي ضَاحِيَةِ الْعَبَّاسِيَّةِ الْبَحْرِيَّةِ

I was residing at that time in the Abbasiya al-Bahariya suburb

عَلَى مَقْرُبَةٍ مِنَ السَّاحَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ مُعَدَّةً لِلِاحْتِفَالِ بِالْمَوْلِدِ النَّبَوِيِّ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ

Close to the square that was prepared for the celebration of the Prophet's birthday every year

وَلَنَا رَهْطٌ مِنَ الْأَصْدِقَاءِ الْمُشْتَغِلِينَ بِالْأَدَبِ

We had a group of friends who were engaged in literature

يَشْتَرِكُونَ فِي قِرَاءَةِ كُتُبِهِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ وَالْإِفْرِنْجِيَّةِ

They would share in reading his Arabic and foreign books
