تَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَى كِتَابِ عَبْقَرِيَّةِ عُمَرَ

Introduction

تَمَّ تَأْلِيفُ هَذَا الْكِتَابِ فِي أَحْوَالٍ عَجِيبَةٍ

This book was written under strange circumstances

هِيَ أَحْوَالُ بَأْسٍ وَخَطَرٍ

These are circumstances of hardship and danger

فَلَا غَرَابَةَ بَيْنَهُمَا وَبَيْنَ مَوْضُوعِ الْكِتَابِ

So there is no strangeness between them and the subject of the book

الَّذِي أَرَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ

That I intended to write about

لِأَنَّنَا لَا نَتَكَلَّمُ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ

Because we do not talk about Umar ibn al-Khattab

إِلَّا وَجَدْنَا أَنَّنَا عَلَى مَقْرُبَةٍ مِنَ الْبَأْسِ وَمِنَ الْخَطَرِ فِي آنٍ

But we find ourselves close to hardship and danger at the same time
