يَا بُنَيَّتِي ذَاكَ يَمْلَأُ الْبَطْنَ وَهَذَا يَمْلَأُ الْقَلْبَ

My little daughter, that fills the stomach, and this fills the heart.

يَا بُنَيَّتِي ذَاكَ يَعْنِي الصِّفَةَ الْأُولَى ذَاكَ يُشْعِرُ الْحَارِسَ أَنَّهُ مُتَسَوِّلٌ شَحَّادٌ

My little daughter, that means the first characteristic, that makes the guard feel like he is a beggar and a panhandler,

قَدْ مَنَّ عَلَيْهِ بِبَقَايَا الطَّعَامِ

who has been granted leftover food as a favor.

وَهَذَا يُشْعِرُهُ أَنَّهُ أَخٌ عَزِيزٌ

And this makes him feel like a dear brother,

وَصَدِيقٌ كَرِيمٌ أَوْ ضَيْفٌ غَالٍ

a generous friend, or a precious guest.

حَدَّثَنَا شَيْخٌ فَاضِلٌ

A virtuous sheikh told us

عَنْ قِصَّةٍ مُؤَثِّرَةٍ

a moving story

حَدَثَتْ مَعَ صَدِيقٍ لَهُ

that happened to a friend of his,

وَصَدِيقُهُ أَيْضًا طَالِبُ عِلْمٍ

and his friend is also a student of knowledge.

يَقُولُ هَذَا الشَّيْخُ

This sheikh says,
