إِذَا كَانَ عُمَرُ لَا يَرَانَا فَإِنَّ رَبَّ عُمَرَ يَرَانَا

If Umar does not see us, then the Lord of Umar sees us.

اشْتَرِكُوا فِي الْقَنَاةِ

وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللهَ يُحْمَدْ فِي عَوَاقِبِهِ وَيَكْفِ شَرَّ مَنْ عَزَّ وَمَنْ هَانَ فَالْزَمْ يَدَيْكَ بِحَبْلِ اللهِ مُعْتَصِمًا فَإِنَّهُ الرُّكْنُ إِنْ خَانَتْكَ أَرْكَانُ

And whoever fears Allah, his consequences will be praiseworthy, and he will be protected from the evil of those who are mighty and those who are lowly. So hold fast to the rope of Allah, for it is the pillar if other pillars betray you.

وَبَعْدُ أَيُّهَا الْأَحِبَّةُ

And after that, O beloved ones,

عَنْ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ

On the authority of Nafi', the freed slave of Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he said:

خَرَجَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فِي بَعْضِ نَوَاحِي الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَعَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ

Ibn Umar went out to some of the outskirts of Medina, and his companions were with him.

فَوَضَعُوا لَهُ سُفْرَةَ طَعَامٍ

They set out a dining mat for him.

فَمَرَّ بِهِمْ رَاعِي غَنَمٍ

Then a shepherd passed by them.

فَسَلَّمَ

He greeted them with peace.

فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ

So Ibn Umar said to him,
