هُمْ خَيْرُ مَنْ خَلَقَ الْإِلَهُ وَمَنْ بَرَى

They are the best of those whom God created and fashioned.

كَانُوا قَوَامِيسَ الْهِدَايَةِ لِلْوَرَى

They were the dictionaries of guidance for humanity.

كَمْ كَانَ فِي أَنْبَائِهِمْ مِنْ عِبْرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ حَدِيثًا

How much of a lesson there was in their news for the people, it was not a story that is fabricated.

يُفْتَرَى مَنْ أَوْصَلَ كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

The one who delivered the books of heaven to mankind.

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

The sun is not [a comparison] to the light of prophethood, nor is the moon.

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ وَزِنُوا بِهَا

So stand by their traces and weigh with them,

أَعْمَالَكُمُ اسْتَلْهِمُوا مِنْهَا الْعِبَرَ

Your deeds, seek inspiration from them for lessons.

هُمْ أَنْبِيَاءُ اللهِ وَالْقَوْمُ الْكِرَامُ

They are the prophets of God and the honorable people.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

بَعْدَ أَنْ انْتَشَرَ الشِّرْكُ فِي الْأَرْضِ لِأَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ

After polytheism spread on earth for the first time,

بَعْدَ عَشَرَةِ قُرُونٍ مِنْ نَبِيِّ اللهِ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

After ten centuries from the Prophet of God, Adam, peace be upon him,

وَقُلْنَا الْعَشَرَةُ قُرُونٍ قَدْ تَكُونُ عَشَرَةَ مِئَةِ سَنَةٍ يَعْنِي أَلْفَ أَوْ آلَافَ السِّنِينَ

And we said ten centuries may be ten hundred years, meaning a thousand or thousands of years,

الْعِلْمُ فِيهَا عِنْدَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

The knowledge of that is with God, the Almighty and Majestic.

بَعْدَ عَشَرَةِ قُرُونٍ مِنْ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ انْتَشَرَ الشِّرْكُ فِي الْأَرْضِ لِأَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ

After ten centuries from Adam, peace be upon him, polytheism spread on earth for the first time,

أَوَّلُ شِرْكٍ انْتَشَرَ فِي الْأَرْضِ

The first polytheism that spread on earth.

وَلِهَذَا كَانَ لَابُدَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِلنَّاسِ مَنْ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

And for this, it was necessary for God, the Almighty and Majestic, to send to the people someone who would teach them once again,

مَنْ يُنْذِرُهُمْ مَنْ يُحَذِّرُهُمْ مَنْ يُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الضَّيَاعِ وَهَذَا الظَّلَامِ

Someone who would warn them, someone who would caution them, someone who would bring them out of this loss and this darkness.

فَكَانَتِ الْبَشَرِيَّةُ عَلَى مَوْعِدٍ مَعَ أَوَّلِ رَسُولٍ يُرْسَلُ إِلَيْهَا

So humanity had an appointment with the first messenger sent to it.

أَوَّلُ نَبِيٍّ كَانَ آدَمَ أَمَّا أَوَّلُ رَسُولٍ فَهُوَ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

The first prophet was Adam, but the first messenger is Noah, peace be upon him.

وَالْفَرْقُ بَيْنَ النَّبِيِّ وَالرَّسُولِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ يُجَدِّدُ دِينَ مَنْ قَبْلَهُ

And the difference between a prophet and a messenger is that the prophet renews the religion of the one before him,

أَمَّا الرَّسُولُ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي بِرِسَالَةٍ جَدِيدَةٍ

Whereas the messenger comes with a new message.

فَكُلُّ رَسُولٍ هُوَ فِي الْأَصْلِ نَبِيٌّ لَكِنْ لَيْسَ كُلُّ نَبِيٍّ يَكُونُ رَسُولًا

So every messenger is originally a prophet, but not every prophet is a messenger.

جَاءَ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ شِيثَ بْنِ آدَمَ لِيَكُونَ مُبَلِّغًا بِرِسَالَةٍ جَدِيدَةٍ يُبَلِّغُهَا قَوْمَهُ

Noah, peace be upon him, came from the descendants of Seth, son of Adam, to be a conveyer of a new message to convey to his people.

نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ كَانَ مُوَحِّدًا وَأَوَّلُ مَا دَعَا قَوْمَهُ إِلَى التَّوْحِيدِ

Noah, peace be upon him, was a monotheist, and the first thing he called his people to was monotheism.

كُلُّ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ بَعْدَ هَذَا وَالرُّسُلِ بَعْدَ هَذَا

All the prophets after this and the messengers after this,

كَانَتْ أَوَّلُ دَعْوَتِهِمُ الدَّعْوَةَ إِلَى التَّوْحِيدِ

Their first call was the call to monotheism.

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ

And We did not send any messenger except that We revealed to him that there is no god but Me, so worship Me.

هِيَ دَعْوَةُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالرُّسُلِ

It is the call of the prophets and messengers.

وَلِأَنَّ نُوحًا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَقَطْ أَوَّلَ رَسُولٍ

And because Noah, peace be upon him, was not only the first messenger,

بَلْ كَانَ مِنْ أُولِي الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ

But he was one of the messengers of determination.

وَأُولُو الْعَزْمِ خَمْسَةٌ

And the ones of determination are five.

اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ذَكَرَ لَنَا خَمْسَةً مِنْ أُولِي الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ

Allah, may He be honored and exalted, mentioned to us five of the messengers of determination.

هُمْ أَفْضَلُ الرُّسُلِ

They are the best of the messengers.

أَوَّلُهُمْ فِي التَّرْتِيبِ الزَّمَنِيِّ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

The first of them in chronological order is Noah, peace be upon him.

ثُمَّ سَنَذْكُرُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْخَلِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Then we will mention Abraham the Friend, peace be upon him.

ثُمَّ سَيَأْتِي ذِكْرُ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Then will come the mention of Moses, peace be upon him.

ثُمَّ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Then Jesus, peace be upon him.

ثُمَّ آخِرُهُمْ تَرْتِيبًا زَمَنِيًّا مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Then the last of them in chronological order, Muhammad, may the prayers of Allah and peace be upon him and his family.

جَاءَ نُوحٌ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ وَهُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ الْأَصْنَامَ

Noah came to his people and they were worshipping idols.

وُدٌّ وَسُوَاعٌ وَيَغُوثُ وَيَعُوقُ وَنَسْرًا

Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr.

فَبَدَأَ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

So he began calling them to Allah, may He be honored and exalted.

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ

Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn your people.'

أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment.

يَعْنِي كُلُّ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالرُّسُلِ أُرْسِلُوا إِلَى أَقْوَامِهِمْ شَفَقَةً عَلَيْهِمْ

Meaning all the prophets and messengers were sent to their people out of compassion for them.

تَرَى الْآنَ لِأَنَّهَا

You see now because it is

قِصَّةُ أَوَّلِ رَسُولٍ

the story of the first messenger

فَلَا بُدَّ أَنْ نَذْكُرَ هَذِهِ الْأُمُورَ أَصْلًا

so we must mention these matters originally.

الرَّسُولُ مَا أُرْسِلَ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ

A messenger was not sent to his people

إِلَّا شَفَقَةً عَلَيْهِمْ

except out of compassion for them

وَرَحْمَةً بِهِمْ لِيُنْقِذَهُمْ

and mercy towards them to save them

مِنْ عَذَابِ اللهِ لَوْ اسْتَمَرُّوا

from the punishment of Allah if they continued

عَلَى هَذِهِ الْحَالِ

in this state.

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ

He said, 'O my people,'

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ

He said, 'O my people,'

إِنِّي لَكُمْ

'I am to you'

نَذِيرٌ

'a warner'

مُبِينٌ

'clear.'

أَنْ اعْبُدُوا

'That you worship'

الدَّعْوَةُ الْأُولَى التَّوْحِيدُ

The first call is monotheism.

اتْرُكُوا وُدًّا وَسُوَاعًا وَيَغُوثَ

Abandon Wadd, Suwa', and Yaghuth.

اتْرُكُوا هَذِهِ الْأَصْنَامَ

Leave these idols.

اتْرُكُوا هَذِهِ الْعِبَادَاتِ

Leave these forms of worship.

اجْعَلُوا عِبَادَتَكُمْ فَقَطْ

Make your worship only

للهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ طَلَبُ شَيْءٍ صَعْبٌ

for Allah, the Almighty and Majestic; is that asking for something difficult?

طَبْعًا لَا

Of course not.

أَصْلًا هَذِهِ الْفِطْرَةُ

Actually, this is the natural disposition (Fitra).

هُوَ يُحَرِّرُهُمْ أَصْلًا

He actually liberates them.

النَّبِيُّ وَالرَّسُولُ يَأْتِي يُحَرِّرُ قَوْمَهُ

The Prophet and the Messenger comes to liberate his people

مِنْ عِبَادَةِ هَذِهِ الْمَعْبُودَاتِ

from the worship of these worshipped objects

إِلَى عِبَادَةِ خَالِقٍ وَاحِدٍ

to the worship of one Creator.

أَنْ يَعْبُدُوا اللهَ

That they worship Allah,

وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ

and fear Him and obey me.

النَّتِيجَةُ

The result:

يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ

He will forgive you some of your sins

وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى

and delay you until a specified term.

سَيَتْرُكُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَذَابَكُمْ

Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, will avert His punishment from you

وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَنْ تَتُوبُوا وَتَسْتَغْفِرُوهُ

and delay you until you repent and seek His forgiveness.

لَكِنْ تَتَوَقَّعُونَ رَدَّ قَوْمِهِ عَلَيْهِ

But do you expect the response of his people to him?

كَيْفَ رَدُّوا عَلَيْهِ

How did they respond to him?

قَالُوا يَا نُوحُ

They said, 'O Noah,'

إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

'we surely see you in clear error.'

أَنْتَ مُو ضَلَالٍ عَادِيٍّ

'You are not in an ordinary state of error.'

أَنْتَ اللَّي أَنْتَ فِيهِ الْآنَ يَا نُوحُ

'What you are in right now, O Noah,'

تَرَىٰ ضَلَالَكَ كَبِيرٌ

'we see your error as great.'

ضَلَالٌ مُبِينٌ اللَّي أَنْتَ فِيهِ

'A clear error that you are in.'

اللَّي هُوَ شِنُو؟ الدَّعْوَةُ لِلتَّوْحِيدِ

'Which is what? The call to monotheism.'

لِأَنَّ جِيلًا بَعْدَ جِيلٍ بَعْدَ جِيلٍ

Because generation after generation after generation,

كُلُّ جِيلٍ يُوصِي اللَّي بَعْدَهُ اللهَ اللهَ بِهَذِهِ الْأَصْنَامِ

every generation would instruct the one after it, 'Allah, Allah regarding these idols.'

هَذِهِ الْآلِهَةُ اللَّي رَاحَ تَنْفَعُكُمْ

'These are the gods that will benefit you.'

وَهَذِهِ الْمَعْبُودَاتُ

'And these are the worshipped objects.'

هُذَيْلٌ كَانُوا نَاسًا صَالِحِينَ يُقَرِّبُونَكُمْ إِلَى اللهِ

Hudhail were righteous people who would bring you closer to God.

فَهُمْ تَوَاصَوْا عَلَىٰ هَذِهِ الْعِبَادَةِ

So they counseled one another to practice this worship.

فَجْأَةً يَجِي وَاحِدٌ يَقُولُ لَهُمْ

Suddenly, someone comes and tells them,

كُلُّ اللَّي قَاعِدْ تُسَوُّونَهُ غَلَطٌ

Everything you are sitting here doing is wrong.

مُو بَسْ أَنْتَ

Not just you,

أَنْتَ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ وَأَجْدَادُكُمْ

You and your fathers and your ancestors,

كُلُّكُمْ فِي ضَيَاعٍ وَضَلَالٍ

You are all in loss and misguidance,

وَشِرْكٍ وَكُفْرٍ

And in polytheism and disbelief,

وَمَا يَجُوزُ هَذَا كُلُّ اللَّي تُسَوُّونَهُ

And all that you are doing is not permissible.

فَرَدُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَقَالُوا لَهُ

So they replied to him and said to him,

قَالُوا لَهُ أَنْتَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

They said to him, 'You are in manifest misguidance.'

كَيْفَ رَدَّ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْهِمْ

How did Noah, peace be upon him, reply to them?

وَلِأَنَّهُ كَانَ خَلُوقًا

And because he was well-mannered,

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي ضَلَالَةٌ

He said, 'O my people, there is no misguidance in me,'

وَلَكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

'But I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.'

أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي

'I convey to you the messages of my Lord,'

وَأَنْصَحُ لَكُمْ

'And I advise you,'

وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

'And I know from God what you do not know.'

شُوفُوا الْأَدَبَ

Look at the politeness,

شُوفُوا الْأَخْلَاقَ

Look at the character,

تَرَى أَنَا جَاي أَنْصَحُ

I am only here to give advice,

أَنَا جَاي أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ اللهِ

I am here to convey to you the messages of God,

أَنَا جَاي أُنْقِذُكُمْ

I am here to save you,

أَنَا جَاي عَشَانَ اللهَ يَغْفِرَ لَكُمْ

I am here so that God may forgive you.

اللَّلِي بَدَأ يَرُدُّونَ عَلَيْهِ

Those who started to reply to him,

وَيُجَادِلُونَهُ

And argue with him,

وَيُعَانِدُونَهُ فِي بِدَايَةِ الْأَمْرِ

And oppose him at the beginning of the matter,

الْكِبَارُ

The elders,

الْمَلَأُ دَائِمًا الْأَنْبِيَاءُ

The elite are always [those who oppose] the prophets,

النَّاسُ عِنْدَهُمْ ثَلَاثُ أَصْنَافٍ

People are of three types.

مَعَ كُلِّ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالرُّسُلِ

with all the prophets and messengers

فِي نَاسٍ بُسَطَاءُ

there are simple people

مَسَاكِينُ مَقْهُورُونَ مَظْلُومُونَ

poor, oppressed, and downtrodden

هَذُولَا أَوَّلُ مَا يَأْتُونَ لِلْأَنْبِيَاءِ

these are the first to come to the prophets

أَغْلَبُهُمْ يُؤْمِنُ

most of them believe

لَيْشَ يُؤْمِنُ

why do they believe?

لِأَنَّهُ حَاسٌّ بِالْقَهْرِ

because he feels oppressed

حَاسٌّ بِالظُّلْمِ

feels the injustice

حَاسٌّ أَنَّ النَّاسَ تَسْتَعْبِدُهُ

feels that people are enslaving him

فَيَبِي الْإِنْسَانَ الَّذِي يُحَرِّرُهُ

so he looks for the person who will liberate him

فَمَا يَجِدُ أَجْمَلَ مِنْ دِينِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

and he finds nothing more beautiful than the religion of Allah, the Almighty

الَّذِي يُنْصِفُهُ

the one that gives him justice

الَّذِي يَقِفُ مَعَ هَذَا الْمَظْلُومِ

the one that stands with this oppressed person

الَّذِي يُحَرِّرُهُ مِنْ هَذَا الِاسْتِبْدَادِ

the one that liberates him from this tyranny

فَدَائِمًا تَلْقَى هَؤُلَاءِ الْبُسَطَاءَ وَالضُّعَفَاءَ وَالْمَسَاكِينَ

so you always find these simple, weak, and poor people

الْمَظْلُومِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الْأَنْبِيَاءَ

the oppressed following the prophets

وَفِي صِنْفٍ ثَانِي الْمَلَأُ

and there is a second category, the elite

مَنِ الْمَلَأُ؟

who are the elite?

كِبَارُ الْقَوْمِ

the leaders of the people

النَّاسُ اللَّلِي عِنْدَهَا السِّيَادَةُ وَالرِّيَادَةُ وَالْأَمْوَالُ

the people who have sovereignty, leadership, and wealth

وَعِلْيَةُ الْقَوْمِ

and the high society

هُذَيْلٌ أَغْلَبُهُمْ أَغْلَبُهُمْ أَعْدَاءٌ لِلْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالرُّسُلِ

these, most of them, most of them are enemies of the prophets and messengers

شُوفْ فَرْقٌ بَيْنَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَصْنَافٍ

look at the difference between three categories

فِي الْمَلَإِ أَغْلَبُهُمْ يُعَادُونَ الرُّسُلَ

among the elite, most of them are hostile to the messengers

وَفِي الْبُسَطَاءِ وَالضُّعَفَاءِ الْمَظْلُومِينَ الْمَقْهُورِينَ

and among the simple, weak, oppressed, and downtrodden

أَغْلَبُهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالرُّسُلِ

most of them believe in the messengers

لِأَنَّ الْخَلَاصَ لَهُمْ مِمَّا هُمْ فِيهِ مِنَ الظُّلْمِ وَالِاسْتِعْبَادِ

because salvation for them lies in what they are in from injustice and enslavement

وَبَاقِي عَادَ بَقِيَّةُ النَّاسِ

and the rest remains the rest of the people

بَقِيَّةُ النَّاسِ مَرَّةً مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ

the rest of the people are sometimes with these

مَرَّةً مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ جُزْءٌ مِنْهُمْ يُؤْمِنُ جُزْءٌ مِنْهُمْ يَتَرَاجَعُ

sometimes with those, a part of them believes, a part of them falls back

يَخْتَلِفُونَ حَسَبَ الْأَقْوَامِ

They differ according to the peoples

وَحَسَبَ الْأُمَمِ

And according to the nations

عَلَاشَانْ شَذِي رَدُّوا عَلَى نُوحٍ

That is why they responded to Noah

أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ قَالُوا لَهُ

The first thing they said to him

كِبَارُ الْقَوْمِ

The elite of the people

قَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ

They said, shall we believe in you

أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ

Shall we believe in you

وَاتَّبَعَكَ الْأَرْذَلُونَ

While the lowest of us have followed you

يَا نُوحُ

O Noah

أَنْتَ لَمَّا دَعَوْتَنَا تَرَى أَوَّلَ نَاسٍ

When you called us, notice that the first people

الْتَفُّوا حَوْلَكَ وَاسْتَجَابُوا لَكَ

Who gathered around you and responded to you

تَرَى أَرَاذِلَ النَّاسِ يُسَمُّونَهُمُ الْأَرْذَلُونَ

You see the lowest of the people, they call them the lowest

هَا

Yes

وَمُو شَرْطٌ أَنَّهُمْ مَا يَفْهَمُونَ

And it is not a condition that they do not understand

يَكُونُ هُذَيْلٌ الْبُسَطَاءُ بِالْعَقْلِ

It could be that these simple ones in mind

وَالذَّكَاءِ

And intelligence

وَالْفَهْمِ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَلْفٍ

And understanding are better than a thousand

مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمَلَإِ

Of these elite

لَكِنَّ الْحَيَاةَ خَلَّتْهُمْ شَذِي

But life made them like that

الظُّرُوفُ خَلَّتْ هَذَا مِسْكِينَ

Circumstances made this one poor

أَجِيرٌ وَمُسْتَعْبَدٌ

A hired worker and enslaved

وَخَلَّتْ هَذَا

And made that one

لَابِسَ الْحَرِيرِ وَالنَّاسُ تَخْدُمُهُ

Wearing silk and people serving him

وَلَا مُو شَرْطٌ

And it is not a condition

أَنَّ هَذَا يَفْهَمُ وَهَذَا مَا يَفْهَمُ

That this one understands and that one does not understand

لَا لَا لَا

No, no, no

الْحَيَاةُ وَالظُّرُوفُ خَلَّتْهُمْ شَذِي

Life and circumstances made them like that

عَشَانَ شَذِي جَاءُوا الْمَلَأُ وَقَالُوا حَقَّ نُوحٍ

That is why the elite came and said to Noah

نَحْنُ مَا نَشُوفُكَ اتَّبَعَكَ

We do not see anyone who followed you

إِلَّا النَّاسُ الَّلِي أَرَاذِلُ الْخَلْقِ

Except the people who are the lowest of the creation

أَقَلُّ النَّاسِ مُسْتَوَى تَرَى الَّلِي يَتْبَعُونَكَ

The lowest level of people you see are those who follow you

وَتَبِينُ أَنْ تَتْبَعَكَ

And it is clear that they follow you

قَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ الْأَرْذَلُونَ

They said, 'Shall we believe you, while the lowest of the people follow you?'

قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

He said, 'And what knowledge have I of what they used to do?'

إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّي

Their account is only with my Lord

إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّي لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ

Their account is only with my Lord, if you only perceived

اللهُ الَّلِي بِيُحَاسِبُهُمْ مُو أَنَا آمَنَ وَلَا كَفَرَ

It is God who will hold them accountable, not I, whether one believed or disbelieved

أَنَا مَا لِي عَلَاقَة وَاحِد فَقِير وَلَا غَنِي

I have nothing to do with whether someone is poor or rich

وَاحِد بَسِيط وَلَا وَاحِد

Someone simple or someone

لَا لَا هَذَا مَا يَهُمُّنِي كُلُّهُ

No, no, this does not concern me at all

هَذَا كُلُّهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى

All of this is with God, Glory be to Him, the Most High

اللهُ بِيُحَاسِبُ النَّاسَ مُو أَنَا الَّلِي أُحَاسِبُ الْبَشَرَ

God will hold people accountable, not I, who holds human beings accountable

قَالُوا لَهُ شَرْط

They said to him a condition

شُوف أَوَّل مَا بَدَأَ بِالدَّعْوَةِ الْآن

Look at when he just began his call now

يَبُونَ يُصَعِّبُونَ عَلَيْهِ الْأُمُور عَلَى نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام

They want to make things difficult for him, for Noah, peace be upon him

قَالُوا لَنَا نَبِي نَتْبَعَكَ نَجْلِس وَيَاكَ

They said, 'We want to follow you, to sit with you'

وَنَسْتَمِع لِحَدِيثِكَ

And to listen to your speech

وَنُنَاقِشُكَ بِالْكَلَامِ الَّلِي قَاعِد تَقُولُهُ

And discuss with you the words that you are saying

أَوَّل شَرْط

The first condition

اطْرُد هَذَيْل مِنْ حَوْلِكَ

Drive these people away from around you

مِثْل مَا جَاءَ حَقَّ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Just as it came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace

وَقَالُوا لَهُ

And they said to him

أَبُو جَهْل وَعُتْبَة وَشَيْبَة

Abu Jahl, Utbah, and Shaybah

تَرَى نَفْس الْكَلَام

You see the same thing

اطْرُد هَذَيْل عَمَّار وَبِلَال

Drive away these people, Ammar, Bilal

وَصُهَيْب وَغَيْرُهُ عَشَان نَقْعُد مَعَكَ

And Suhayb and others so we can sit with you

نَفْس الشَّيْء تَرَى كُلُّ الْأُمَم

It is the same thing, all nations

تَقُول حَقَّ أَنْبِيَائِهَا نَفْس الشَّيْء

Say to their prophets the same thing

اطْرُد هَذَيْل

Drive these people away

عَلَشَان نَجْلِس وَنَسْتَمِع مِنْكَ

So that we can sit and listen to you

لَكِنْ يَفْعَلُهَا نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

But Noah, peace be upon him, does it

طَبْعًا لَا

Of course not

وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And I am not going to drive away the believers

مَا رَحْ أَطْرُدُهُمْ

I will not drive them away

لِأَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Because God, Almighty and Majestic is He

هُوَ الَّذِي أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَدْعُوَ الْبَشَرَ جَمِيعًا

Is the One who commanded me to call all of humanity

وَلَا أُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ

And I do not differentiate between people

تَدْرُونَ شِنُو قَالَ لَهُمْ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Do you know what Noah, peace be upon him, said to them?

قَالَ لَهُمْ لَوْ طَرَدْتُهُمْ

He said to them, if I drove them away

لَوْ طَرَدْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمَسَاكِينَ الْبُسَطَاءَ

If I drove away these poor, simple people

اللهُ رَحْ يُعَاقِبُنِي

God would punish me

وَبَعْدَيْنِ مَنْ سَيَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللهِ لَوْ طَرَدْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسَ الْمَسَاكِينَ

And then who would help me against God if I drove these poor people away?

وَيَا قَوْمِ مَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللهِ إِنْ طَرَدْتُهُمْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

And O my people, who would help me against God if I drove them away? Will you not remember?

لَوْ طَرَدْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْبُسَطَاءَ الضُّعَفَاءَ الْمَسَاكِينَ اللَّي عِنْدَكُمْ تُسَمُّونَهُمُ الْأَرْذَلُونَ

If I drove away these simple, weak, poor people whom you call the lowest of us

اللهُ رَحْ يُحَاسِبُنِي وَهُنَا مَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللهِ إِنْ طَرَدْتُهُمْ

God would hold me accountable, and who is there to help me against God if I drove them away?

بَدَأَ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يُبَلِّغُ دِينَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Noah, peace be upon him, began to convey the religion of God, Almighty and Majestic is He

وَكَانَتْ تِلْكَ السِّنَةُ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ خَمْسُونَ عَامًا

And that year of his life was fifty years old

هُنَا بَدَأَ فِي تَبْلِيغِ دِينِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Here he began to convey the religion of God, Almighty and Majestic is He

مَنْ أَوْصَلُوا كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Those who delivered the books of heaven to humanity

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophethood, what is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ مُعْتَبِرِينَ

So stand upon their footsteps, taking heed

وَلِأَنَّ نُوحًا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ هُوَ أَوَّلُ رَسُولٍ أُرْسِلَ لِلْبَشَرِ

And because Noah, peace be upon him, is the first messenger sent to humanity

كَانَ النَّاسُ يُجَادِلُونَهُ وَيَتَّهِمُونَهُ

People used to argue with him and accuse him

بَلْ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ لَوْ أَرَادَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُرْسِلَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا

Rather, they used to say, if God, Almighty and Majestic is He, wanted to send us a messenger

مَا يُرْسِلُهُ بَشَرًا مِثْلَنَا

He would not send a human being like us

يُرْسِلُ مَلَائِكَةً مِنْ عِنْدِهِ مَلَكًا

He would send angels from Himself, an angel

لَيْشَ يُرْسِلُ بَشَرًا مِثْلَنَا

Why would He send a human being like us?

يُرْسِلُ إِلَيْنَا مَلَكًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ

He would send us an angel from heaven

يُبَلِّغُنَا بِمَا يُرِيدُ

To inform us of what He wants

أَوَّلُ قَوْمٍ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

The first people to whom a messenger came from God, Almighty and Majestic is He

وَأَوَّلُ مَرَّةٍ يُوَاجِهُونَهُ بِمِثْلِ هَذِهِ الشُّبُهَاتِ

And it is the first time they confront him with such doubts

شْلُون

How

بَشَرٌ

A human being

إِنْسَانٌ عَادِيٌّ

An ordinary person

مِثْلَنَا مِثْلُهُمْ

Just like us, just like them

بَلْ حَتَّى مُو مِنْ عِلْيَةِ الْقَوْمِ

In fact, not even from the elite of the people

وَيَكُونَ رَسُولًا عَلَيْنَا

And he would be a messenger to us

فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا هَذَا

So the elite among his people who disbelieved said, 'What is this?'

مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ

This is nothing but a human being

مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ

This is nothing but a human being like you

تَرَى حَالُهُ حَالُكُمْ

You see his situation is your situation

لَا يَضْحَكُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَقُولُ لَكُمْ أَنَا رَسُولٌ أَنَا مَبْعُوثٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ أَنَا يُوحَى إِلَيَّ

Do not let him deceive you by saying to you, 'I am a messenger, I am sent from God, I am being inspired'

هَذَا كُلُّهُ كَلَامُ كَذِبٍ

All of this is talk of lies

مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ

This is nothing but a human being like you

يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ

He wants to favor himself over you

يَدَّعِي الرِّسَالَةَ عَلَشَانَ يَصِيرَ أَحْسَنَ مِنْكُمْ

He claims the message in order to become better than you

شُوفِ الْخُبْثَ وَشُوفِ الْأُسْلُوبَ

Look at the malice and look at the method

اللَّي يُنَفِّرُونَ النَّاسَ مِنْ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

That they use to drive people away from Noah, peace be upon him

وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللهُ لَأَنْزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً

And if God had willed, He would have sent down angels

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الْأَوَّلِينَ

We have not heard of this among our forefathers

طَبْعًا مَا سَمِعْتُمْ لِأَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ رَسُولٍ

Of course you have not heard, because he is the first messenger

أَكِيدُ مَا سَمِعْتُمْ بِهَذَا فِي آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Certainly you have not heard of this among your forefathers

لِأَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ رَسُولٍ

Because he is the first messenger

افْهَمُوا اعْقِلُوا

Understand, be reasonable

اللهُ لِأَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَرْحَمَكُمْ

God, because He wants to have mercy on you

بَعَثَ إِلَيْكُمْ هَذَا الرَّسُولَ

Sent this messenger to you

فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

So Noah, peace be upon him, replied to them

قَالَ نَعَمْ صَحِيحٌ أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلِي مِثْلُكُمْ

He said, 'Yes, it is true, I am a human being just like you'

أَنَا لَا أَتَفَضَّلُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ لَكِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَنِي

I do not claim superiority over you in anything, but God Almighty is the One who sent me

وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللهِ

And I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of God

وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ

And I do not know the unseen.

وَلَا أَقُولُ إِنِّي مَلَكٌ

And I do not say that I am an angel.

أَنَا مَا رَحْ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ تَرَى أَنَا مَلَكٌ

I will not tell you, you see, that I am an angel,

مُتَشَكِّلٌ عَلَى صُورَةِ إِنْسَانٍ

taking the form of a human being.

وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي الْخَزَائِنُ مَفْتُوحَةٌ كُلُّهَا لِي

And I do not say to you that the treasures are with me, all open for me.

وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ اللهُ نَزَّلَ عَلَيَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا

And I do not say to you that God has revealed to me such and such.

لَا لَا أَنَا إِنْسَانٌ بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ

No, no, I am a human being like you.

الْفَرْقُ اللَّي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ

The difference that is between me and you

يُوحَى إِلَيَّ فَقَطْ

is that revelation comes to me only.

اللهُ اخْتَارَنِي لِأُبَلِّغَ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّي

God chose me to convey the message of my Lord.

تَتَوَقَّعُونَ النَّاسَ آمَنَتْ

Do you expect that people believed?

نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بَدَأَ دَعْوَتَهُ

Noah, peace be upon him, began his call

وَعُمْرُهُ خَمْسُونَ سَنَةً

when he was fifty years old.

وَظَلَّ يَدْعُو قَوْمَهُ تِسْعَمِائَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ عَامًا

And he kept calling his people for nine hundred and fifty years,

وَهُمْ يُوَاجِهُونَهُ بِالصَّدِّ وَالْعَدَاءِ وَالِافْتِرَاءِ

while they confronted him with rejection, hostility, and fabrication.

حَتَّى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُؤْمِنْ مَعَ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

To the extent that no one believed with Noah, peace be upon him,

إِلَّا الْقِلَّةُ الْقَلِيلَةُ

except for a very few.

وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ

And none believed with him except a few.

تَرَى يَرُوحُ جِيلٌ بَعْدَ جِيلٍ وَيَنْتَهِي جِيلٌ وَيَأْتِي بَعْدَهُ جِيلٌ

You see, a generation goes after a generation, and a generation ends and another comes after it,

وَالصَّدُّ وَالْكُفْرُ وَالْعُدْوَانُ

and the rejection, disbelief, and hostility

لِنَبِيِّ اللهِ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

towards the Prophet of God, Noah, peace be upon him,

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ

Or do they say he fabricated it?

بَدَأُوا يَقُولُونَ لِلنَّاسِ

They started saying to people,

تَرَى هَذَا الدِّينَ كُلَّهُ اللَّي عِنْدَ نُوحٍ

'You see, all this religion that Noah has,

وَالرِّسَالَةَ كُلَّهَا اللَّي عِنْدَ نُوحٍ

and the whole message that Noah has,

وَالْكَلَامَ كُلَّهُ اللَّي قَاعِدٌ يَقُولُهُ نُوحٌ

and all the words that Noah keeps saying,

تَرَى كُلَّهُ افْتِرَاءٌ

you see, it is all a fabrication.'

كُلُّهُ كَذِبٌ

'It is all a lie.'

كُلُّهُ مَأَلَّفَهُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ

'It is all authored by him from himself.'

مَعَ أَنَّهُ يَدْعُوهُمْ لِلْفِطْرَةِ

Even though he is calling them to their natural disposition (fitrah).

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ

Or do they say, 'He has invented it'?

لَمَّا سَمِعَهُ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَقُولُونَ لَهُ الْكَلِمَةَ

When Noah, peace be upon him, heard them saying this to him,

إِنَّهُ افْتَرَى هَذَا الدِّينَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ

'Indeed, he invented this religion from himself,'

شُو رَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ

What did he reply to them?

قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَعَلَيَّ إِجْرَامِي

Say, 'If I have invented it, then upon me is my crime,'

لَوْ أَنَا افْتَرَيْتُ هَذَا الدِّينَ مِنْ عِنْدِي

'If I had invented this religion from myself,'

هَذِهِ جَرِيمَةُ اللهِ سَيُحَاسِبُنِي عَلَيْهَا

'This is a crime for which God will hold me accountable,'

قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَعَلَيَّ إِجْرَامِي

Say, 'If I have invented it, then upon me is my crime,'

وَأَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُجْرِمُونَ

'And I am innocent of what you commit of crimes.'

لَمْ يُبَالِ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِهَذِهِ الْكَلِمَاتِ

Noah, peace be upon him, did not pay attention to these words,

وَلَا هَذَا الْعَدَاءِ وَلَا هَذَا الْكُفْرِ

Nor this hostility, nor this disbelief.

وَبَدَأَ يَنْتَشِرُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ

And he began to spread among the people,

رَافِعًا رَايَةَ التَّوْحِيدِ

Raising the banner of monotheism,

يُبَلِّغُ دِينَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Conveying the religion of God, the Almighty and Majestic.

مَنْ أَوْصَلُوا كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Those who delivered the heavenly books to mankind,

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophethood? What is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ وَسِيرُوا

So follow in their footsteps and walk [the path],

مَنْ يَصْبِرْ كَصَبْرِ نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ

Who can be patient like the patience of Noah, peace be upon him, with his people?

مِئَاتِ السِّنِينَ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ

Hundreds of years he invited them to God.

وَرُبَّمَا تَمُرُّ سَنَوَاتٌ طَوِيلَةٌ وَلَا يُسْلِمُ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ فِي دِينِ اللهِ وَاحِدٌ

And perhaps long years pass, and not one person converts or enters the religion of God.

بَلْ رُبَّمَا تَمُرُّ عَشَرَاتُ السِّنِينَ

In fact, perhaps decades pass.

فَفِي تِسْعِمِئَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ عَامًا مَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ

For in nine hundred and fifty years, only a few believed with him.

أَقْسَمَ هَذَا الْقَلِيلُ قَالُوا عَشَرَاتٌ

They differed on this few, they said dozens,

قَالُوا ثَمَانُونَ وَاحِدٌ

They said eighty people,

قَالُوا ثَلَاثُونَ وَاحِدٌ

They said thirty people,

أَقْسِمْهَا عَلَى التِّسْعِمِئَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ عَامًا وَهُوَ صَابِرٌ

Divide them over the nine hundred and fifty years while he is patient,

وَهُوَ ثَابِتٌ وَهُوَ مُسْتَعِينٌ باللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

And he is steadfast, and he is seeking help from God, the Almighty and Majestic,

بِاللَّيْلِ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

At night, he invites them to God, the Almighty and Majestic,

يَأْتِي النَّهَارُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى

Day comes, he invites them to God, Blessed and Exalted,

بِالسِّرِّ يَدْعُو بَعْضَ النَّاسِ

In secret, he invites some people.

بِالْعَلَنِ يَدْعُو جَمِيعَ النَّاسِ

Publicly, he calls upon all the people

وَهُمْ مَعَ هَذَا لَا يُقَابِلُونَهُ إِلَّا بِالْعِنَادِ

And despite this, they meet him only with stubbornness

إِلَّا بِالْأَذَى أَحْيَانًا

Except with harm, sometimes

بَلْ كَانُوا أَحْيَانًا إِذَا مَرُّوا عِنْدَهُ

In fact, sometimes when they passed by him

غَطَّوْا الثِّيَابَ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ

They would cover their faces with their clothes

حَتَّى لَا يَسْمَعُوا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا

So that they would not hear anything from him

بَلْ مِنْ خُبْثِ بَعْضِهِمْ يَتَوَاصَوْنَ

Indeed, because of the malice of some of them, they would advise one another

إِذَا مَرَرْتُمْ عَلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ

If you pass by this man

وَيُسَمُّونَهُ الْمَجْنُونَ

And they would call him the madman

إِذَا مَرَرْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَضَعُوا أَصَابِعَكُمْ فِي آذَانِكُمْ

If you pass by him, then put your fingers in your ears

لَيْشَ؟

Why?

حَتَّى لَا تَسْمَعُوا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا

So that you do not hear anything from him

رُبَّمَا سَحَرَكُمْ

Perhaps he will bewitch you

رُبَّمَا تَأَثَّرْتُمْ بِجُنُونِهِ

Perhaps you will be affected by his madness

وَكَانُوا يَتَّهِمُونَ نُوحًا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

They used to accuse Noah, peace be upon him

بِكُلِّ أَنْوَاعِ التُّهَمِ وَهُوَ ثَابِتٌ وَهُوَ صَابِرٌ

With all kinds of accusations, yet he remained steadfast and patient

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا

He said: My Lord, I have called my people by night

دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا

I have called my people by night and by day

يَعْنِي طُولَ الْيَوْمِ أَحْيَانًا بِاللَّيْلِ وَأَحْيَانًا بِالنَّهَارِ

Meaning throughout the whole day, sometimes at night and sometimes during the day

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا

He said: My Lord, I have called my people by night and by day

فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا

But my call only increased them in flight

يَعْنِي كُلَّ مَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ كُلَّمَا نَفَرُوا أَكْثَرَ

Meaning the more I called them, the more they fled

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ

And indeed, every time I invited them so that You may forgive them

تَرَى قَاعِدٌ يَشْتَكِي بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ رَبِّهِ

You see him sitting complaining between himself and his Lord

يَبُثُّ هَمَّهُ لِمَنْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Pouring out his sorrow to whom? To Allah, the Almighty

يَشْكُو بَثَّهُ وَهَمَّهُ لِمَنْ لِخَالِقِهِ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ

Complaining of his grief and sorrow to whom? To his Creator, glorious is His majesty

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ

And indeed, every time I invited them so that You may forgive them

جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ

They put their fingers in their ears

وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ

And covered themselves with their garments

وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا

And persisted, and were arrogant with great arrogance

غَيَّرَ بِالْأُسْلُوبِ

He varied the approach.

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا

Then I invited them openly.

ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا

Then I proclaimed to them and confided to them privately.

كُلَّ الْأَسَالِيبِ اتَّخَذَهَا نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Noah, peace be upon him, adopted every method.

وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لَهُمْ فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ

While he was saying to them: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness.'

إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

Indeed, He is All-Forgiving.

يَعْنِي يَشُوفُ الْأُسْلُوبَ حَتَّى مَا يَجِيهِمْ يَقُولُ تَرَى رَبَّكُمْ رَحْ يُعَذِّبُكُمْ وَرَحْ يَفْعَلُ

Meaning, he looks for the style, even so that he does not come to them saying: 'Look, your Lord is going to punish you and will do [such and such].'

مَعَ أَنَّهُ صَحِيحٌ

Even though it is true.

فِي النِّهَايَةِ إِذَا مَا آمَنْتُمْ سَيَأْتِي الْعَذَابُ لَكِنْ كَانَ يَفْتَحُ لَهُمْ بَابَ التَّوْبَةِ

In the end, if you do not believe, the punishment will come, but he was opening the door of repentance for them.

وَيَدْعُوهُمْ لِلِاسْتِغْفَارِ وَيُخْبِرُهُمْ أَنَّ الرَّبَّ غَفَّارٌ

And he invites them to seek forgiveness and informs them that the Lord is All-Forgiving.

مَا تَرَكَ أُسْلُوبًا لَا بِالْجَهْرِ لَا بِالْعَلَنِ لَا بِالسِّرِّ لَا بِاللَّيْلِ لَا بِالنَّهَارِ

He did not leave a method, not openly, not publicly, not privately, not by night, not by day.

فِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ بِالطُّرُقَاتِ بِالنَّوَادِي بِالْمَجَالِسِ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ

In every place, in the streets, in the clubs, in the gatherings, he enters upon them in every place.

يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ مُو سَنَةً مُو سَنَتَيْنِ مُو عَشَرَاتِ السِّنِينَ

He invites them to Allah, not for a year, not for two years, not for decades.

أَكْثَرُ نَبِيٍّ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا تِسْعُمِائَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ سَنَةً وَهُوَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْحَالِ

The prophet who spent the longest time: a thousand years minus fifty, nine hundred and fifty years, and he was in this state.

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ

'So I said: Ask your Lord for forgiveness, indeed He is All-Forgiving. He will send rain from the sky upon you in torrents, and provide you with wealth and children.'

وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ

And He will provide you with gardens.

وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا

And He will provide you with rivers.

إِيشْ تَبُونَ بَعْدُ

What more do you want?

مَا لَكُمْ

What is the matter with you?

مَا لَكُمْ

What is the matter with you?

لَا تَرْجُونَ للهِ وَقَارًا

You do not attribute due reverence to Allah.

قَدِّرُوا رَبَّكُمْ

Estimate your Lord [properly].

عَظِّمُوا رَبَّكُمْ

Magnify your Lord.

بَعْدَ كُلِّ هَذَا اللَّي سَوَالَكُمْ

After all this that He has done for you.

أَصْنَامٌ تَعْبُدُونَ

Idols you worship.

أَوْثَانٌ

False gods.

مَا لَكُمْ

What is the matter with you?

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ للهِ وَقَارًا

Why do you not attribute due reverence to Allah?

وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا

While He has created you in stages.

أَخَذَ يُذَكِّرُهُمْ حَتَّى بِخَلْقِهِمْ

He began to remind them even of their own creation.

تَرَى أَنْتَ كُنْتَ وَلَا شَيْءَ

You see, you were nothing.

كُنْتَ لَا تَبِينُ

You were not visible.

اللهُ سَوَّاكُمْ بَشَرًا

Allah fashioned you as human beings.

وَقَبْلَ الْبَشَرِ شِنُو كُنْتُمْ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ

And before being human, what were you in your mothers' wombs?

تَرَى وَلَا شَيْءَ أَطْوَارٌ

You see, nothing, then stages.

مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِلَى عَلَقَةٍ إِلَى مُضْغَةٍ إِلَى

From a sperm-drop, to a clot, to a lump, to...

لِينْ صِرْتُوا أَجِنَّةً

Until you became embryos.

ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَكُمْ مِنْ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ

Then He brought you out from your mothers' wombs.

لَا تَعْرِفُونَ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ شُوَيّ شُوَيّ

You knew nothing, then bit by bit.

تَعَلَّمْتُمْ بَدَأَ نُوحٌ يُذَكِّرُهُمْ

You learned. Noah began to remind them.

بِهَذَا كُلِّهِ نِعْمَةً

Of all this as a blessing.

الْجِنَانُ وَالْأَنْهَارُ وَالسَّمَاءُ

The gardens, the rivers, and the sky.

اللَّي تُمْطِرُ وَالْمَالُ وَالْوَلَدُ

That sends rain, and wealth, and children.

وَخَلْقُ الْإِنْسَانِ نَفْسِهِ

And the creation of the human himself.

وَبَعْدَ هَذَا

And after this.

مَا تَرْجُونَ للهِ وَقَارًا

Do you not hope for dignity for Allah?

بَعْدَ هَذَا كُلِّهِ يَبِي مِنْكُمْ

After all this, He wants from you.

شِنُو تَرَى شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ

You see, just one thing.

أَلَّا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا

That you do not associate anything with Him.

تَدْرُونَ

Do you know?

إِشْ كَانَ يُسَوُّونَ لَهُ

What they used to do to him.

كَانُوا أَحْيَانًا يَجُونَ

They would sometimes come.

وَيَحُطُّونَ إِيدَهُمْ عَلَى فَمِهِ

And place their hands on his mouth.

فَمُهُ يُسَكِّرُونَهُ

They would close his mouth.

عَشَان مَا يَتَكَلَّمُ

So that he would not speak.

قَالُوا يَا نُوحُ

They said, 'O Noah.'

قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا

You have argued with us.

قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا

You have argued with us.

فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا

And have increased our argument.

تَرَى تَعِبْنَا مِنْكَ

You see, we are tired of you.

تَرَى أُذِيَّتَنَا

You see our harm

كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَنْصَحُ

Every day you advise

كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَتَكَلَّمُ

Every day you speak

كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَدْعُو

Every day you call

كُلَّ يَوْمٍ

Every day

أَنْتَ مَا تَتْعَبُ

Do you not get tired?

قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا

You have argued with us

فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا

You have argued with us too much

طَيِّب شِتَبُونَ

Okay, what now?

فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

So bring us what you promise us, if you are of the truthful

اللهُ

Allah

شُوفُوا الْوَقَاحَةَ وَيْنَ وَصَلَتْ فِيهِمْ

Look where their audacity has reached

قَالُوا إِذَا فِي عَذَابٍ

They said if there is a punishment

إِحْنَا نَاطِرِينَ الْعَذَابَ يَلَّا

We are waiting for the punishment, come on

إِذَا رَبُّكَ

If your Lord

اللَّيِّ تُخَوِّفُنَا فِيهِ

That you frighten us with

يَقُولُ لَكَ إِنَّهُ رَاحَ يُعَذِّبُنَا عَلَى اللَّيِّ قَاعِدِينَ نُسَوِّيهِ

He says to you that He will punish us for what we are doing

إِحْنَا جَاهِزِينَ

We are ready

فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا

So bring us what you promise us

فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

So bring us what you promise us, if you are of the truthful

قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ

He said, 'Only Allah will bring it to you'

تَرَى هَذَا الْعَذَابَ مُو أَنَا

You see, this punishment is not from me

اللَّيِّ آمُرُ فَيَنْزِلُ الْعَذَابُ

That I order so the punishment descends

هَذَا الْعَذَابُ إِذَا اللهُ أَرَادَ أَنَّهُ يَنْزِلُ رَاحَ يَنْزِلُ

This punishment, if Allah wills that it descends, it will descend

لَا أَنَا أَرُدُّهُ وَلَا أَنْتُمْ تَرُدُّونَهُ

Neither I can turn it back, nor can you turn it back

لَا تَتَحَدَّوْا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Do not challenge the Lord of the worlds

قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ إِنْ شَاءَ

He said, 'Only Allah will bring it to you if He wills'

وَمَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِينَ

And you cannot escape Him

تَرَى أَنْتُمْ مَا رَاحَ تَقْدِرُونَ

You see, you will not be able

تَعْجِزُونَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

To frustrate the Lord of the worlds

إِذَا شَاءَ رَبُّكُمْ وَنَزَلَ الْعَذَابُ

If your Lord wills and the punishment descends,

واللهِ وَلَا وَاحِدٌ فِيكُمْ رَاحَ يَقْدِرُ يَرُدُّ أَمْرَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

By God, not one of you will be able to turn back the command of God, the Almighty and Majestic,

مَعَ كُلِّ هَذَا الْعِنَادِ

With all this stubbornness,

لَا زَالَ نُوحٌ صَابِرًا وَثَابِتًا

Noah remained patient and steadfast,

يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Calling them to God, the Almighty and Majestic.

هُمْ خَيْرُ مَنْ خَلَقَ اللهُ وَمَنْ بَرَى

They are the best of what God created and originated,

كَانُوا قَوَامِيسَ هِدَايَةٍ لِلْوَرَى

They were dictionaries of guidance for mankind,

كَمْ كَانَ فِي أَنْبَائِهِمْ مِنْ عِبْرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَى

How much of a lesson was in their news for the people, it was not a fabricated story,

مَنْ أَوْصَلَ كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Who delivered the books of heaven to humans?

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophecy, what is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ وَزِنُوا بِهَا

So stand upon their traces and weigh with them,

أَعْمَالَكُمْ اسْتَلْهِمُوا مِنْهَا الْعِبَرَ

Your deeds, be inspired by them with lessons.

هُمُ أَنْبِيَاءُ اللهِ وَالْقَوْمُ الْكِرَامُ

They are the prophets of God and the noble people,

وَالتَّابِعُونَ لَهُمُ هُدُوا سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ

And those who followed them were guided to the paths of peace,

صَلَوَاتُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ عَلَيْهِمْ

The blessings of the Lord of the worlds be upon them,

وَسَلَامُهُ تَعْدَادَ مَنْ صَلَّى وَصَامَ

And His peace, counting those who prayed and fasted.
