هُمْ خَيْرُ مَنْ خَلَقَ الْإِلَهُ وَمَنْ بَرَى

They are the best of those whom God created and fashioned.

كَانُوا قَوَامِيسَ الْهِدَايَةِ لِلْوَرَى

They were the dictionaries of guidance for humanity.

كَمْ كَانَ فِي أَنْبَائِهِمْ مِنْ عِبْرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ حَدِيثًا

How much of a lesson there was in their news for people, which was not a story

يُفْتَرَى مَنْ أَوْصَلَ كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

fabricated, they who delivered the books of heaven to mankind.

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophecy, what is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ وَزِنُوا بِهَا

So stand upon their traces and weigh with them

أَعْمَالَكُمُ اسْتَلْهِمُوا مِنْهَا الْعِبَرَ

your deeds, seek inspiration from them for lessons.

هُمْ أَنْبِيَاءُ اللهِ وَالْقَوْمُ الْكِرَامُ

They are the prophets of God and the honorable people,

وَالتَّابِعُونَ

and those who followed.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

سَنَوَاتٍ وَنُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَنْتَظِرُ الْعَلَامَةَ

For years, Noah, peace be upon him, was waiting for the sign

الَّتِي أَخْبَرَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِهَا

that God, Almighty and Majestic, had told him about.

كُلَّ فَتْرَةٍ يَرُوحُ يَشُوفُ التَّنُّورَ

Every period, he would go to see the oven

فِي شَيْءٍ بَدَأَ يَظْهَرُ مِنْهُ الْمَاءُ

to see if something was starting to appear from it, water.

حَتَّى جَاءَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ

Until that day came,

وَالْبَشَرُ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ عَلَى مَوْعِدٍ عَظِيمٍ

and humanity on the face of the earth was on the verge of a great appointment

وَحَدَثٍ جَلَلٍ

and a momentous event.

هَذَا الْحَدَثُ حَذَّرَ مِنْهُ آدَمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَوْلَادَهُ

This event, Adam, peace be upon him, warned his children about

وَلِعَشَرَةِ قُرُونٍ

for ten centuries.

وَالنَّاسُ يَتَوَقَّعُونَ مِثْلَ هَذَا الْحَدَثِ

People were expecting such an event,

لَكِنْ مَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ يَدْرِي أَنَّهُ سَيَحْصُلُ الْآنَ

but no one knew that it would happen now.

التَّنُّورُ فَارَ

The oven overflowed.

بَدَأَ الْمَاءُ يَخْرُجُ أَسْرَعَ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَأَمَرَ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ أَنْ تَرْكَبَ السَّفِينَةَ

The water started to come out. Noah, peace be upon him, hurried and ordered the animals to board the ship.

وَبَدَأَتِ الْحَيَوَانَاتُ تَدْخُلُ اللهُ أَعْلَمُ كَمْ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ

The animals started to enter. God knows how many there were of the animals.

لَيْسَ فَقَطِ الْحَيَوَانَاتُ حَتَّى الطُّيُورُ

Not only the animals, even the birds.

وَقِيلَ أَنَّ هَذِهِ السَّفِينَةَ كَانَتْ ثَلَاثَ طَبَقَاتٍ

It is said that this ship was three levels.

الطَّبَقَةُ السُّفْلَى كَانَتْ لِهَذِهِ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ مِنْ عِظَمِهَا

The lower level was for these animals, due to its size,

الشَّاتَيْنِ وَالْبَقَرَتَيْنِ وَالْخَيْلِ

the two sheep, the two cows, and the horses,

وَكُلُّ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ ذَكَرٌ وَأُنْثَى

and all the animals, a male and a female.

وَالطَّبَقَةُ الْعُلْيَا كَانَتْ لِهَذِهِ الطُّيُورِ

And the upper level was for these birds.

الَّتِي رُبَّمَا طَارَتْ وَرَجَعَتْ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

that which perhaps flew and returned once again

وَكَانَ الْوَسَطُ لِأَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ

and the middle was for the people of faith

وَمِنْهُمْ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

and among them is Noah, peace be upon him

وَالنَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ

and the people are looking

مَا الَّذِي يَحْصُلُ؟

what is happening?

مَا الَّذِي يَجْرِي؟

what is going on?

مَا بَالُ نُوحٍ رَكِبَ مَعَهُ

why did Noah board with him

أَصْحَابُهُ فِي تِلْكَ السَّفِينَةِ

his companions in that ship

وَأَرْكَبَ هَذِهِ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ

and boarded these animals

وَقَفَ الْمَلَأُ وَنَظَرُوا

the crowd stood and watched

مَا لَكُمْ

what is wrong with you

هَلْ جَنَنْتُمْ الْأَرْضُ جَافَّةٌ

have you gone mad? the land is dry

وَرَكِبُوا عَلَى سَفِينَةٍ

and they boarded a ship

لَيْسَ فِيهَا

in which there is no

لَا مَطَرٌ

no rain

وَلَا بَحْرٌ

and no sea

وَالنَّاسُ

and the people

مُسْتَغْرِبِينَ مِمَّا يَفْعَلُ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

are astonished by what Noah, peace be upon him, is doing

حَتَّى

until

إِذَا جَاءَ

when came

أَمْرُنَا

our command

قُلْنَا احْمِلْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ

we said load into it of each pair two

قُلْنَا احْمِلْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ

we said load into it of each pair two and your family

وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ

and your family except those for whom the word has already passed

وَمَنْ آمَنَ وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ

and whoever believed, and none believed with him except a few

وَقَالَ لِأَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ ارْكَبُوا فِيهَا

and he said to the people of faith, board it

بِسْمِ اللهِ قُولُوا بِسْمِ اللهِ وَأَنْتُوا رَاكِبِينَ

in the name of Allah, say in the name of Allah while you are boarding

وَقَالَ ارْكَبُوا فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللهِ

and he said, board it, in the name of Allah

بِسْمِ اللهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا

in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage

إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

indeed my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful

لَمَّا رَكِبُوا السَّفِينَةَ وَالنَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ

When they boarded the ship while people were watching

فَجْأَةً بَدَأَ وَعْدُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Suddenly, the promise of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, began

بَدَأَتْ السَّمَاءُ تُمْطِرُ لَيْسَ مَطَرًا عَادِيًّا

The sky began to rain, not ordinary rain

مَطَرٌ شَدِيدٌ شُفْتَ الدَّلْوَ

Heavy rain, have you seen a bucket

الدَّلْوُ الَّذِي تَسْكُبُهُ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ شْلُونُ الْمَاءُ يَنْزِلُ

The bucket that you pour onto the ground, how does the water come down

تَرَى هَكَذَا كَانَ يَنْزِلُ الْمَطَرُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ

You see, that is how the rain was coming down from the sky

مِثْلَ شَلَّالٍ

Like a waterfall

فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ

So We opened the gates of the sky

كَأَنَّ السَّمَاءَ صَارَتْ بَابًا وَانْفَتَحَ

As if the sky became a door and opened up

فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍ

So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring water

وَمُو بَسّ مِنْ فَوْق وَمِنْ تَحْت

And not just from above, but from below

وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا

And We caused the earth to burst forth with springs

تَرَى الْمَنْظَرَ مُخِيفٌ واللهِ

You see the scene is frightening, I swear to Allah

لَا تَقُول لِي تَسُونَّامِي

Don't tell me a tsunami

لَا تَقُول لِي مَطَرٌ غَزِيرٌ وَالنَّاسُ بَدَأَتْ تَغْرَق

Don't tell me heavy rain and people started drowning

لَا تَقُول لِي هَذَا مُو طُوفَانٌ عَادِيٌّ

Don't tell me this is an ordinary flood

هَذَا الطُّوفَانُ مَا صَارَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً فِي عَهْدِ نُوحٍ

This flood has only happened on the face of the earth once, in the time of Noah

السَّمَاءُ فُتِحَتْ الْمَاءُ يَنْهَمِرُ

The sky opened, the water is pouring down

يَنْهَمِرُ يَنْهَمِرُ

Pouring, pouring

وَالْأَرْضُ تَفَجَّرَتْ

And the earth burst forth

فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍ

So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring water

وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا

And We caused the earth to burst forth with springs

فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَى أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ

So the waters met for a matter already ordained

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ

And We carried him

وَارْتَفَعَتْ الْفُلْكُ

And the ark rose

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ

And We carried him on a structure of planks

وَدُسُرٍ

And nails

مَا أَعْظَمَ النَّجَاةَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ

How great was the salvation on that day

وَالنَّاسُ تَخَيَّلْ الْآنَ مَشْهَدَ النَّاسِ

And the people, imagine now the scene of the people

النَّاسُ بَدَأُوا يَرْكُضُونَ

The people started running

النَّاسُ أَوَّلَ شَيْءٍ كَانُوا مُحْتَمِينَ بِبُيُوتِهِمْ

At first, people were taking shelter in their homes

مِنْ الْمَطَرِ

from the rain

عَلَى بَالِهِمْ بُيُوتُهُمْ سَتَحْمِيهِمْ

they thought their homes would protect them

لَمَّا بَدَأَ الْمَاءُ يَرْتَفِعُ

when the water started to rise

ارْتَفَعُوا فَوْقَ بُيُوتِهِمْ

they climbed onto their houses

لَمَّا شَافُوا الْمَاءَ سَيَرْتَفِعُ حَتَّى عَلَى بُيُوتِهِمْ

when they saw that the water would rise even over their houses

بَدَأُوا يَرْكُضُونَ

they started running

وَيَصْرُخُونَ وَيَصِيحُونَ

and screaming and shouting

وَيْنَ يَرُوحُونَ؟

where would they go?

يَرُوحُونَ لِلْجِبَالِ

they go to the mountains

الْكُلُّ قَامَ يَتَّجِهُ لِلْجِبَالِ

everyone started heading to the mountains

اللَّي غَرِقَ غَرِقَ

whoever drowned, drowned

اللَّي مَا لَحِقَ مَا لَحِقَ

whoever did not make it, did not make it

وَالْكُلُّ قَامَ يَرْكُضُ وَيْنَ عَلَى الْجِبَالِ حَتَّى إِنَّ بَعْضَهُمْ تَرَكَ أَطْفَالَهُ وَرَاءَهُ

and everyone started running where? To the mountains, to the point that some of them left their children behind

مَا لَحِقَ

did not make it

وَالْأُمُّ تَتْرُكُ طِفْلَهَا يَغْرَقُ وَهِيَ تَهْرُبُ

and a mother leaves her child to drown while she flees

تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرْكُضَ لِتَنْجُوَ بِنَفْسِهَا

she wants to run to save herself

وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ

and it sails with them

وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ

and it sails with them through waves

ارْتِفَاعُ الْمَوْجِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ

the height of the waves on that day

كَارْتِفَاعِ الْجِبَالِ شَكْلُهُ مِثْلُ الْجَبَلِ

was like the height of mountains, it looked like a mountain

تَرَى مَنْظَرًا مُخِيفًا

you see a terrifying sight

واللهِ مُفْزِعًا

by God, it is horrifying

وَمَا فِي أَحَدٍ قَاعِدٌ يَنْجُو إِلَّا هَذِهِ السَّفِينَةُ

and no one is being saved except this ship

وَالنَّاسُ يَصِيحُونَ وَيَصْرُخُونَ

and the people are shouting and screaming

وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ كَالْجِبَالِ

and it sails with them through waves like mountains

وَنُوحٌ بِهَاللَّحْظَةِ

and Noah at that moment

الْأُبُوَّةُ غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ

fatherhood overcame him

عَلَى طُولٍ سَأَلَ عِيَالَهُ

immediately he asked about his children

سَأَلَ حَامًا

he asked about Ham

وَسَامًا

And Sam,

وَيَافَثَ أَيْنَ أَخُوكُمْ

And Japheth, where is your brother?

أَيْنَ أَخُوكُمْ

Where is your brother?

مَنْ أَخُوهُمْ

Who is their brother?

يَامَ كَنْعَانَ

O Canaan,

قَالَ أَيْنَ أَخُوكُمْ

He said, where is your brother?

قَالُوا لَمْ يَرْكَبْ مَعَنَا يَا أَبِي

They said, he did not board with us, O my father.

مَا جَاءَ مَعَنَا وَهُوَ يَعْرِفُ

He did not come with us, and he knows,

أَنَّهُ مَا آمَنَ بِهِ

That he did not believe in Him.

فَصَعِدَ عَلَى السَّفِينَةِ يَبْحَثُ عَنْهُ

So he climbed onto the ship searching for him.

يَبْحَثُ عَنْ مَنْ

Searching for whom?

يَبْحَثُ عَنِ ابْنِهِ وَالنَّاسُ قَاعِدَةٌ تَغْرَقُ

Searching for his son, while the people are sitting drowning.

وَالنَّاسُ تَصِيحُ

And the people are screaming,

وَالنَّاسُ تَرْكُضُ إِلَى الْجِبَالِ

And the people are running to the mountains.

وَيَدُورُ عَلَى ابْنِهِ

And he goes around looking for his son.

يَا بُنَيَّ يَا بُنَيَّ وَيْنَكَ

O my son, O my son, where are you?

تَخَيَّلُوا نُوحًا

Imagine Noah,

اللهُ قَالَ لَا

God said, no.

إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ

Except for those against whom the decree has already passed.

خَلَاصٌ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ

It is over, the decree has already passed against him.

خَلَاصٌ يَا نُوحُ

It is over, O Noah.

قَامَ يُنَادِي ابْنَهُ

He stood up calling his son.

يَا بُنَيَّ يَا بُنَيَّ شَافَهُ

O my son, O my son, he saw him.

الْوَلَدُ يَوْمَ شَافَ أَبُوهُ

The boy, the day he saw his father,

وَالْوَلَدُ قَاعِدٌ يَرْكُضُ وَيْنَ قَاعِدٌ يَرُوحُ

And the boy is running, where is he going?

قَاعِدٌ يَرُوحُ بِاتِّجَاهِ الْجَبَلِ

He is going in the direction of the mountain.

يَا بُنَيَّ

O my son,

يَا بُنَيَّ

O my son,

ارْكَبْ مَعَنَا

Board with us,

مَا كَانَ يَدْرِي

He did not know.

إِنَّهُ مَا يَصِيرُ يَرْكَبُ

He does not manage to board

لَكِنَّ الْأُبُوَّةَ

But the fatherhood

مَهْمَا كَانَ ابْنُهُ

Whatever his son was

يَا بُنَيَّ

Oh my son

ارْكَبْ مَعَنَا

Board with us

وَلَا تَكُنْ

And do not be

مَعَ الْكَافِرِينَ

With the disbelievers

قَالَ لَعَلَّ ابْنِي

He said perhaps my son

كَانَ يُبْطِنُ الْإِيمَانَ

Was concealing faith

لَعَلَّ فِيهِ ذَرَّةَ إِيمَانٍ

Perhaps there is in him an atom of faith

لَعَلَّ فِيهِ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ

Perhaps there is in him something of human nature

بَقَتْ

Remained

لَعَلَّ اللهَ يَتَقَبَّلُهُ

Perhaps Allah will accept him

وَيُنَادِي يَا بُنَيَّ تَعَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ ارْكَبْ يَا بُنَيَّ ارْكَبْ

And he calls out oh my son come oh my son board oh my son board

مَعَ أَنَّ الْأَمْرَ خَلَاصٌ انْفَصَلَ

Even though the matter was final and disconnected

قَالَ سَآوِي إِلَى جَبَلٍ

He said I will betake myself to a mountain

يَا أَبَتِي تَرَى فِي جَبَلٍ هُنَاكَ رَاحَ أَحْتَمِي فِيهِ

Oh my father you see a mountain over there I will go take shelter in it

سَآوِي إِلَى جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ

I will betake myself to a mountain that will protect me from the water

رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ نُوحٌ

Noah replied to him

قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ

He said oh my son there is no protector today

لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللهِ إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ

There is no protector today from the decree of Allah except whom He has shown mercy

يَا بُنَيَّ أَدْرِكْ نَفْسَكَ

Oh my son save yourself

هَذَا عَذَابُ اللهِ هَذَا مُو مَاءٌ بَسْ

This is the punishment of Allah this is not just water

هَذِهِ عُقُوبَةٌ نَزَلَتْ لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللهِ إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ

This is a penalty that has descended there is no protector today from the decree of Allah except whom He has shown mercy

وَالِابْنُ يَرْكُضُ لِلْجَبَلِ وَالْأَبُو يُنَادِي

And the son runs to the mountain and the father calls out

حَتَّى ارْتَفَعَ الْمَاءُ أَعْلَى مِنْ رُؤُوسِ الْجِبَالِ

Until the water rose higher than the peaks of the mountains

وَغَرِقَ الِابْنُ أَمَامَ أَبِيهِ

And the son drowned in front of his father

وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا الْمَوْجُ

And the wave came between them

وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا الْمَوْجُ

And the wave came between them

فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِينَ

And he was among the drowned

إِنَّهَا مَأْسَاةٌ عَلَى نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

It is a tragedy for Noah, peace be upon him.

لَكِنَّ هَذِهِ سُنَّةُ اللهِ

But this is the way of Allah.

الْإِيمَانُ وَالْكُفْرُ يَفْصِلُ الِابْنَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

Faith and disbelief separate the son from his father.

وَسَارَتِ السَّفِينَةُ زَمَنًا

And the ark sailed for a time,

فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَوْجِ الْمُتَلَاطِمِ وَالْمَطَرِ

Amidst those crashing waves and the rain

ظَلَّ يَنْزِلُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا

Which continued to fall for forty days.

مَنْ أَوْصَلَ كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Who delivered the books of heaven to mankind?

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophethood?

مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ

So stand upon their traces.

اخْتَفَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ بِمَنْ فِيهَا حَتَّى الْجِبَالُ اخْتَفَتْ

The city disappeared with everyone in it, even the mountains disappeared.

وَصَارَ الْمَاءُ أَعْلَى مِنَ الْجِبَالِ

And the water became higher than the mountains,

وَالْمَطَرُ يَنْزِلُ

And the rain was falling,

وَسَفِينَةُ نُوحٍ مُغَطَّاةٌ

And Noah's ark was covered,

وَأَهْلُ الْإِيمَانِ يَحْمَدُونَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

And the people of faith praise Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.

فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ

So when you and those with you have settled on the ship,

فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ للهِ

Say, 'Praise be to Allah.'

الْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Praise be to Allah who saved us from the wrongdoing people.

تَرَى كُلَّ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ غَطَّاهَا الطُّوفَانُ

You see that the flood covered all the people of the earth,

وَلَمْ يَبْقَ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ إِلَّا أَهْلُ تِلْكَ السَّفِينَةِ

And nothing remained at that time except the people of that ship.

إِنَّهُ دُعَاءُ مَنْ؟ دُعَاءُ نُوحٍ

It is the supplication of whom? The supplication of Noah:

رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ

My Lord, do not leave on the earth

مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا

From the disbelievers any inhabitant.

غَرِقَ الْجَمِيعُ أَمَامَ أَعْيُنِهِمْ

Everyone drowned before their eyes,

وَظَلَّ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

And Noah, peace be upon him, remained,

وَأَهْلُ الْإِيمَانِ فِي السَّفِينَةِ يَدْعُونَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

And the people of faith in the ship call upon Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.

ظَلُّوا بَعْدَ أَنْ تَوَقَّفَ الْمَطَرُ شُهُورًا فِي هَذِهِ السَّفِينَةِ

They remained for months in this ship after the rain stopped,

تَجُوبُ بِهِمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ

As it roamed the earth with them,

حَتَّى أَنَّهَا وَصَلَتْ إِلَى مَكَّةَ

Until it reached Mecca,

ثُمَّ جَابَتْ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضَ

Then it roamed the earth with them.

تَجْرِي حَيْثُ يَأْمُرُهَا اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

It flows where Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, commands it.

أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سِتَّةِ شُهُورٍ

More than six months.

وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ

And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best of those who accommodate.'

يَدْعُونَ اللهَ أَنْ تَرْسُوَ هَذِهِ السَّفِينَةُ وَتَنْزِلَ مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا

They call upon Allah that this ship might anchor and land at a blessed landing place.

لَكِنَّ الْأَمْرَ طَالَ شَهْرٌ شَهْرَيْنِ وَمَعَهُمْ حَيَوَانَاتٌ

But the matter took a month, two months, and they had animals with them.

وَأَحْيَانًا كَانَتْ تَصِيرُ بَعْضُ الْمَشَاكِلِ مَعَ هَذِهِ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ

And sometimes some problems would arise with these animals.

وَمَا تُخْرِجُهَا وَمَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا

And what they produce from them and what they eat from them.

كَانَتْ مُشْكِلَةً كَبِيرَةً عِنْدَ نُوحٍ وَأَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ

It was a big problem for Noah and the people of faith.

لَكِنَّ اللهَ حَفِظَهُمْ

But Allah protected them.

حَتَّى زَادَ الْمَوْعِدُ عَنْ سِتَّةِ شُهُورٍ بِعَشَرَةِ أَيَّامٍ

Until the time exceeded six months by ten days.

وَإِذَا بِنُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يُرْسِلُ حَمَامَةً

And suddenly Noah, peace be upon him, sends a dove.

يَبِي يَتَأَكَّدُ فِي مَكَانٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ

He wants to be sure if there is a place on the earth.

الْمَاءُ نَازِلٌ فِي يَابِسَةٍ

Is the water receding on dry land?

فَكَانَ يُرْسِلُ حَمَامَةً

So he would send a dove.

وَتَرْجِعُ الْحَمَامَةُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ رَجَعَتْ بِوَرَقَةِ زَيْتُونٍ

And the dove returned the first time, it returned with an olive leaf.

فَعَرَفَ أَنَّهَا إِلَى الْآنَ

So he knew that until now,

لَيْسَتْ هُنَاكَ يَابِسَةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ

There is no dry land on the earth.

ثُمَّ الْمَرَّةُ الثَّانِيَةُ ثُمَّ الْمَرَّةُ الثَّالِثَةُ

Then the second time, then the third time.

وَجَدَ رِجْلَهَا عَلَيْهَا الطِّينُ

He found mud on its foot.

فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ بَدَأَتْ تَجِفُّ

So he knew that the land had begun to dry.

وَبَدَأَتِ الْأَرْضُ تَبْلَعُ مَاءَهَا

And the earth began to swallow its water.

وَقِيلَ يَا أَرْضُ ابْلَعِي مَاءَكِ

And it was said, 'O earth, swallow your water.'

وَيَا سَمَاءُ أَقْلِعِي

And 'O sky, withhold.'

وَغِيضَ الْمَاءُ

And the water subsided.

وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ

And the matter was concluded.

وَاسْتَوَتِ السَّفِينَةُ

And the ship came to rest.

تَوَقَّفَتْ

It stopped.

عِنْدَ جَبَلٍ فِي الْعِرَاقِ

At a mountain in Iraq.

اسْمُهُ الْجُودِيُّ

Its name is Al-Judi.

وَاسْتَوَتْ عَلَى الْجُودِيِّ

And it rested upon Al-Judi.

وَقِيلَ بُعْدًا

And it was said, 'Away'

وَقِيلَ بُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

And it was said, 'Away with the wrongdoing people'

أَهْلُ الْإِيمَانِ فَرِحُوا

The people of faith rejoiced

أَنَّ النَّجَاةَ اقْتَرَبَتْ خَلَاصٌ

That salvation was drawing near, deliverance

لِلْحِينِ مَا نَزَلُوا مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ

At that moment, they had not yet descended from the ship

لَكِنْ فَرِحُوا أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ بَدَأَتْ تَيْبَسُ

But they rejoiced that the earth began to dry

وَأَنَّ السَّفِينَةَ رَسَتْ

And that the ship had come to rest

يَعْنِي اقْتَرَبَتِ النَّجَاةُ

Meaning salvation had drawn near

خَلَاصٌ سَتَجِفُّ الْأَرْضُ شَيْئًا فَشَيْئًا

Deliverance, the earth will dry little by little

وَالنَّاسُ فَرْحَانِينَ

And the people were happy

وَفِي هَذِهِ اللَّحَظَاتِ

And in these moments

نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Noah, peace be upon him

رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ

Raised his hands to the sky

وَقَالَ

And said

وَنَادَى نُوحٌ رَبَّهُ

And Noah called out to his Lord

لِلْحِينِ

At this moment

سِتُّ شُهُورٍ

Six months

تَدْرُونَ نُوحٌ شِنُو يَبِي يَطْلُبُ الْحِينَ

Do you know what Noah wants to ask for now?

يَبِي يَطْلُبُ الشَّفَاعَةَ

He wants to ask for intercession

لِوَلَدِهِ

For his son

وَنَادَى نُوحٌ رَبَّهُ

And Noah called out to his Lord

فَقَالَ رَبِّ

And said, 'My Lord'

إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي

Indeed, my son is of my family

تَرَى هَذَا قِطْعَةٌ مِنِّي يَا رَبِّ

You see, this is a part of me, O Lord

يَبْقَى وَلَدِي

He remains my son

إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي

Indeed, my son is of my family

وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ

And indeed, Your promise is the truth

نَعَمِ اللَّي قُلْتَ حَقٌّ يَا رَبِّ

Yes, what You said is the truth, O Lord

لَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا حَقٌّ

Do not address Me regarding those who have done wrong, it is the truth

وَإِنَّمَا لَنْ يُؤْمِنَ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ إِلَّا مَنْ قَدْ آمَنَ حَقٌّ

And indeed, none will believe from your people except those who have already believed, it is the truth

كُلُّ هَذَا حَقٌّ يَا رَبِّ لَكِنْ يَبْقَى ابْنِي

All of this is true, O Lord, but my son remains

إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ

Indeed, my son is of my family, and Your promise is the truth

وَأَنْتَ أَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِينَ

And You are the wisest of the judges

رَدَّ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى نُوحٍ

God Almighty replied to Noah

قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ

He said, O Noah, he is not of your family

إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ

Indeed, it is an unrighteous deed

انْتَهَى يَا نُوحُ

It is over, O Noah

دَامَ إِنَّهُ مَا آمَنَ

Since he did not believe

لَا تَعْتَبِرْهُ ابْنَكَ

Do not consider him your son

وَلَا تَعْتَبِرْهُ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ

And do not consider him of your family

لَوْ كَانَ الْأَبُ

If it were the father

لَوْ كَانَتِ الْأُمُّ

If it were the mother

لَوْ كَانَ الِابْنُ

If it were the son

لَوْ كَانَ الْعَمُّ

If it were the uncle

لَوْ كَانَ حُبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَيْنَا

If the love of people for us

خَلَاصٌ

That is it

الْإِيمَانُ وَالْكُفْرُ

Faith and disbelief

يَفْصِلُ النَّاسَ عَنْ بَعْضِهِمُ الْبَعْضِ

Separate people from one another

إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ

Indeed, he is not of your family

إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ

Indeed, it is an unrighteous deed

فَلَا تَسْأَلَنَّ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ

So do not ask Me that of which you have no knowledge

إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

I advise you not to be among the ignorant

وَإِذَا بِنُوحٍ يَنْتَبِهُ فَيَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

And suddenly Noah awakens and seeks forgiveness from God Almighty

وَيَظَلُّ يَبْكِي سَنَوَاتٍ طِوَالًا بِسَبَبِ هَذَا الدُّعَاءِ

And he continues to cry for long years because of this supplication

فَقَطْ بِسَبَبِ هَذَا الطَّلَبِ

Only because of this request

ظَلَّ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَبْكِي

Noah, peace be upon him, continued to cry

وَيَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَنَوَاتٍ طَوِيلَةً

And seek forgiveness from God Almighty for long years

وَهُوَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِهِ عِلْمٌ

While saying, My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge

وَإِلَّا تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُنْ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers

وَإِذَا بِالْأَرْضِ بَعْدَ فَتْرَةٍ مِنَ الزَّمَنِ جَفَّتْ

And suddenly, after a period of time, the earth dried up

هُنَا أَذِنَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِنُوحٍ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ

Here Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, gave permission to Noah and those with him from among the people of faith

وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنَ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ وَالطُّيُورِ

And those with him from among the animals and birds

أَنْ تَنْزِلَ مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ

To descend from the Ark

وَتَرْجِعَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ

And return to the earth

الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا

Which did not have in it

إِلَّا أَهْلُ الْإِيمَانِ

Except for the people of faith

وَأَهْلُ التَّوْحِيدِ

And the people of monotheism

قِيلَ يَا نُوحُ

It was said: O Noah

اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ

Descend in peace

اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ

Descend in peace

مِنَّا

From Us

وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ

And blessings upon you

وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ

And blessings upon you

وَعَلَى أُمَمٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَكَ

And upon nations from among those with you

وَأُمَمٌ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمْ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُمْ مِنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

And nations We will grant enjoyment, then a painful punishment will touch them from Us

يَعْنِي رَحْ يَرْجِعُ النَّاسُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى إِلَى الْكُفْرِ وَالشِّرْكِ

Meaning, people will return once again to disbelief and polytheism

وَسَيَأْتِيهِمُ الْعَذَابُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

And the punishment will come to them once again

مَنْ أَوْصَلُوا كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Those who delivered the heavenly books to humanity

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophethood? What is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ

So follow in their footsteps

وَالْإِيمَانُ

And faith

وَبَدَأُوا يَعْمُرُونَ الْأَرْضَ

And they began to inhabit the earth

مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

Once again

وَحَجَّ نُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

And Noah, peace be upon him, performed Hajj

مَعَ أَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَنِ

With the people of faith at that time

إِلَى مَكَّةَ مَعَ أَبْنَائِهِ

To Makkah with his children

وَظَلَّ فَتْرَةً

And he remained for a period

مِنَ الزَّمَنِ

Of time

حَتَّى حَانَتْ

Until arrived

وَفَاتُهُ

His death

وَفَاتُ مَنْ؟

The death of whom?

نَبِيٌّ وَرَسُولٌ

A prophet and a messenger.

قَضَى يَدْعُو قَوْمَهُ

He spent his time calling his people,

أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا

A thousand years less fifty years.

الْآنَ جَاءَتْ سَاعَةُ الْوَفَاةِ

Now the hour of death has come.

قِيلَ لَهُ يَا نُوحُ

It was said to him: O Noah,

كَيْفَ تَرَى الدُّنْيَا الَّتِي قَضَيْتَهَا

How do you see the world that you spent in it?

قَالَ كَأَنَّهَا بَيْتٌ فِيهِ بَابَانِ

He said: It is like a house with two doors,

دَخَلْتُ مِنْ بَابٍ وَخَرَجْتُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ

I entered from one door and exited from the other.

شُفْتَ اللَّيْ عَمَّرَ

Did you see the one who lived long?

هَذِهِ الْقُرُونَ الطَّوِيلَةَ

These long centuries,

يَقُولُ كَأَنِّي دَخَلْتُ مِنْ بَابٍ وَطَلَعْتُ مِنْ بَابٍ

He says: It is as if I entered from a door and went out from a door.

فَلَمَّا اقْتَرَبَتْ وَفَاتُهُ

So when his death approached,

نَادَى أَبْنَاءَهُ الثَّلَاثَةَ

He called his three sons,

أَهْلَ الْإِيمَانِ

The people of faith:

سَامٌ

Sam,

الْكَبِيرُ هَذَا

The eldest, this one,

حَامٌ وَيَافَثُ

Ham and Japheth.

فَأَخَذَ يُوصِيهِمْ

He began to advise them,

وَأَوَّلُ مَا أَوْصَاهُمْ بِهِ التَّوْحِيدُ

And the first thing he advised them with was monotheism,

لِأَنَّ الشِّرْكَ وَقَعَ فِي قَوْمِهِ

Because polytheism had occurred among his people,

وَلِهَذَا خَافَ

And for this he feared

عَلَى أَبْنَائِهِ

For his sons,

فَأَوْصَاهُمْ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ

So he advised them with monotheism,

وَقَالَ لَهُمْ يَا بُنَيَّ

And he said to them: O my sons,

لَوْ أَنَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ

If the heavens and the earth

وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي كِفَّةٍ

And what is between them were on one side of a scale,

وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ

And there is no god but Allah

فِي كِفَّةٍ لَرَجَحَتْ بِهِنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ

Were on the other side, there is no god but Allah would outweigh them.

وَقَالَ لَهُمْ لَوْ كَانَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ حَلْقَةً لَقَصَمَتْهُنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ

And he said to them: If the heavens and the earth were a ring, there is no god but Allah would have broken them.

أَخَذَ يُحَرِّضُهُمْ وَيُذَكِّرُهُمْ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ

He began inciting them and reminding them of monotheism

وَبِعِبَادَةِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَتَّى تَوَفَّاهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى

and of the worship of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, until Allah, the Exalted, caused him to pass away

وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ

And Noah called out to Us

نِدَاءً مُجَابٌ

a call that was answered

اللهُ أَغْرَقَ أَهْلَ الْأَرْضِ بِنِدَائِهِ

Allah drowned the people of the earth by his call

وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ

And Noah called out to Us

فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ

and excellent are the ones who answer

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ

And We saved him and his family from the great distress

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ

And We made his descendants

مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ؟ ثَلَاثَةٌ

Of his descendants? Three

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ

And We made his descendants the remaining ones

يَعْنِي كُلَّ النَّاسِ

Meaning all people

أَهْلَ الْإِيمَانِ اللَّي كَانُوا مَوْجُودِينَ

the people of faith who were present

مَا

Whatever

عَاشَتْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ

their descendants lived

انْقَطَعَ نَسْلُهُمْ

their lineage was cut off

كُلُّ النَّاسِ

All people

بَقِيَ نَسْلُهُمْ مِنْ نَسْلِ نُوحٍ

their lineage remained from the lineage of Noah

بَسْ

Just

الثَّلَاثَةُ

the three

سَامٌ وَحَامٌ وَيَافَثُ

Shem, Ham, and Japheth

مِنْهُمْ مَرَّةً ثَانِيَةً

from them a second time

الْبَشَرِيَّةُ

humanity

تَكَاثَرَتْ

multiplied

يَعْنِي أَنَا وَإِنْتَ

meaning me and you

أَنَا وَأَنْتَ

me and you

تَرَى إِحْنَا

you see we

وَاحِدٌ مِنْ آبَائِنَا

one of our forefathers

إِمَّا سَامٌ أَوْ حَامٌ

either Shem or Ham

أَوْ يَافَثُ

or Japheth

وَنُوحٌ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

And Noah, peace be upon him,

أَبُونَا طَبْعًا

is our father, of course.

نُوحٌ أَبُونَا

Noah is our father,

لِأَنَّ الْبَشَرَ كُلَّهَا انْقَطَعَتْ

because all of humanity was cut off.

لَمْ تَبْقَ إِلَّا ذُرِّيَّةُ مَنْ

None remained except the offspring of

نُوحٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Noah, peace be upon him.

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ

And We made his offspring

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ

And We made his offspring the survivors.

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ

And We left for him among the later generations,

سَلَامٌ عَلَى نُوحٍ

Peace be upon Noah.

سَلَامٌ عَلَى نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ

Peace be upon Noah among the worlds.

إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good.

إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

مَا أَعْظَمَهَا مِنْ قِصَّةٍ

How great a story it is!

ظَلَّ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ بَعْدَهَا فَتْرَةً مِنَ الزَّمَنِ

The people of the earth remained after it for a period of time

عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ وَالتَّوْحِيدِ

upon faith and monotheism.

وَتَفَرَّقُوا فِي الْأَمْصَارِ

And they spread out in the lands,

وَرَاحُوا فِي جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ

and they went into the Arabian Peninsula.

كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْأَبْنَاءِ فِي مَكَانٍ

Each one of the sons in a place,

وَتَكَاثَرُوا وَتَنَاسَلُوا

and they multiplied and procreated.

فَهَلْ ظَلُّوا عَلَى التَّوْحِيدِ؟

So did they remain upon monotheism?

لَا

No.

رَجَعَ إِبْلِيسُ إِلَيْهِمْ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

Iblis returned to them once again,

وَأَدْخَلَهُمْ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فِي الشِّرْكِ

and he led them once again into polytheism.

لَكِنْ فِي أَيِّ أُمَّةٍ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ

But in which of the nations,

سَيَقُصُّ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْنَا قِصَّتَهَا مَرَّةً أُخْرَى

will Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, tell us its story once again?

هُمْ خَيْرُ مَنْ خَلَقَ الْإِلَهُ وَمَنْ ذَرَأ

They are the best of what the God created and brought forth.

كَانُوا مَصَابِيحَ الْهِدَايَةِ لِلْوَرَى

They were lamps of guidance for mankind.

كَمْ كَانَ فِي أَنْبَائِهِمْ مِنْ عِبْرَةٍ

How much of a lesson was in their news

لِلنَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَى

for the people; it was not a fabricated story.

مَنْ أَوْصَلَ كُتُبَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرِ

Who delivered the heavenly books to humanity?

مَا الشَّمْسُ مِنْ نُورِ النُّبُوَّةِ مَا الْقَمَرُ

What is the sun compared to the light of prophecy, what is the moon?

فَقِفُوا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ وَزِنُوا بِهَا

So stand upon their traces and weigh by them

أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَاسْتَلْهِمُوا مِنْهَا الْعِبَرَ

your deeds and draw lessons from them.

هُمُ أَنْبِيَاءُ اللهِ وَالْقَوْمُ الْكِرَامُ

They are the prophets of God and the honorable people,

وَالتَّابِعُونَ لَهُمُ هُدُوا سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ

and those who followed them were guided to the paths of peace.

صَلَوَاتُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ عَلَيْهِمْ

May the prayers of the Lord of the worlds be upon them,

وَسَلَامُهُ تَعْدَادَ مَنْ صَلَّى وَصَامَ

and His peace, as many as those who prayed and fasted.
